Module 00

Fundamentals

Voltage, current, resistance and power, the laws that connect them, how to measure them, and where the heat goes.

Every later module uses the ideas in this one. Before a transistor or a circuit board means anything, you need a picture of what moves through a wire and what pushes it.

Lessons

  1. 00.1Ohm's LawHow voltage, current and resistance are linked, and how to check that a resistor can take the heat.ohm-law10 min
  2. 00.2Series and ParallelTwo rules that turn any group of resistors into one value, and why connecting something changes a circuit.resistor-network9 min
  3. 00.3The Voltage Divider, and What Loading Does to ItHow two resistors make a smaller voltage, and why the output drops when you connect something to it.divider12 min
  4. 00.4Kirchhoff's LawsAt every node, current in equals current out, and around every loop the voltages add up to zero: two rules that solve circuits series and parallel cannot.kirchhoff11 min
  5. 00.5Using a MultimeterMeasure volts, amps and ohms, and see how much the meter itself changes the circuit it measures.meter-loadingmeter-loading14 min
